About

Bangladesh is Located in the north-eastern part of South Asia. The Himalayas stand some distance to the north, while in the south lays the Bay of Bengal. West Bengal borders on the west and in the east lies the hilly and forested regions of Tripura, Mizoram (India) and Myanmar. These picturesque geographical boundaries frame a low lying plain of about 1,47,570 square kilometer, criss-crossed by innumerable rivers and streams. Mighty rivers are Padma (Ganges), Brahmaputra (Jamuna), Meghna and Karnafuli. A country with a large population of over 150 million as per the Census Report of 2011, however Bangladesh has distinct Bangla ethos and figures prominently in India’s ‘Look East’ policy and both countries are working to strengthen sub-regional cooperation between Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and North East India, and maximum emphasis has been placed on the question of connectivity within the sub-region as well as with the South East Asian countries under the aegis of BIMSTEC and ASEAN. Bangladesh enjoys a unique strategic location as a land bridge between South and South East Asia, and her coasts offer great opportunities for the development of deep sea ports in the Bay of Bengal for the benefit of the entire region. The country also offers huge skilled and semiskilled workforce for the development of joint venture projects. Given vast resources and potentials, Bangladesh believes that the countries of this entire region should move and grow together for the common benefit of people. Bangladesh, India relations are the most important with multifaceted and deep rooted in shared history, geographical proximity and commonality in their cultures.
